Just when I was getting used to the indoors, the temps get into the 50s. I’m not complaining, though. And as I type this I can hear the wind hitting the house, bringing in some frigid temps. This weekend we should hit single digit highs and the rest of the week will be in the… Read more »

Indoors Is Not So Bad
We spend so much of the year trying to get outside. Last year the spring and fall were so mild we were hardly inside at all. On a few occasions we even rode inside just to do it. Now that the weather is truly wintery (albeit still mild), I’m not minding the indoor arena at… Read more »
Back on the Kid
We’re definitely having a somewhat lackadaisical start the year in terms of riding. But the weather is never great in January, so we tend to figure we’ll get out there when we get out there and not worry too much about how often it is. Today it was time to get Laredo going again. Ever since he… Read more »
An End and a Beginning
2012 closed with us spending some nice time in Arizona. People complained about it being a little cold there, but we were comfortable hanging out in t-shirts and working with Jak and Rojo. Jak was really the first horse I ever rode, and for a few years I would get out on him for a… Read more »
Laredo and Work
It has been an interesting experience having our 3 year old these past 6 months. When he first arrived it was a matter of getting to know him and making sure he knew the basics. Then we started working on doing more with less. After that we began to broaden his horizons by taking him… Read more »
Birthday Ride!
Yesterday was my birthday. I took the day off work so I could fully enjoy it. I had a leisurely morning of opening gifts, drinking coffee and eating a nice breakfast. Then I had a hard workout and even squeezed in a short nap. In the afternoon we went out to the barn before going… Read more »
Working the Hilltop
Today was warm. Really warm. So warm we found all the horses standing around looking overheated and miserable. I rode Laredo. I wanted to make sure we included some focused work in our ride. We’ve been just going from point A to point B with him a lot lately, usually in the company of another… Read more »
This is December?
It was nearly 70 degrees this afternoon. I like the 70s, but not in December. And the horses, with their thick, fluffy coats, really didn’t appreciate it. We took Bear and Laredo out onto the strip before venturing off into the big pasture. It was a nice feeling to sit on my own horse again… Read more »
The Run Away
Today I found myself on a run away Laredo. One moment we were trotting a nice figure eight, and then next moment we were blazing down the strip and off into the soybean field in a full on gallop. It is funny when these things happen. Time slows down and you can see the ground… Read more »
What Didn’t Happen
Brian and I seem to have developed a not particularly wonderful habit of having riding accidents in the fall. It started the year we got Bear – 2010. I had a horrible crash on Halloween. Then Brian came off hard our very next ride. I suffered a concussion and Brian’s shoulder bothered him for months.… Read more »
